Today’s “Pay Forward” gift is - What About Faith? By the time I arrived at the doors of Alcoholics Anonymous the only thing I believed in was everyone and everything was not good. And if anything could go wrong it would. I didn’t trust anyone; I was especially leery of those who claimed to be religious. Our Father could not teach me what I needed to learn as long as I was trusting in my crutch (alcohol). I had to let go of that crutch, before I could walk on the path of sobriety. I could see how other A.A. members were throwing away their alcoholic crutch, and shifting their dependence to their Higher Power. Taking one step at a time took on a whole new meaning. “But ask now the beasts and they shall teach you; and the fouls of the air, and they shall tell you; Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach you: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto you…that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this” (Job 12:7-9). My faith in our Father’s mercy and grace was becoming clear. I know we did not, cannot create ourselves. We were created in such a way that we have to have others. I let go of my crutch (alcohol). “Action is the magic word.” My skills and talents were very limited, but when I started using what I did have they began to expand and grow. “Faith without works is dead.” Thy Love, Thy Will be done.
